Mountains tend to attract people who like doing things in the great outdoors. Great Smoky Mountains National Park itself is one giant playground for those in search of scenic hiking, cycling, picnicking, camping, fishing and more. But it's note the only place to discover outdoor adventure around here.
This week, we're introducing you to Dubby's Adventure Park at Five Oaks, a 70-acre nature park that's just moments from the hustle and bustle of the Parkway in Sevierville, but it instantly transports you into a rugged and scenic natural setting that can make you feel as if you're a million miles away.
One of the main outdoor activities is ziplining. The course, which takes about two hours to complete, features seven unique ziplines that are up to 2,000 feet long, and riders can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. Other options include tandem ziplining with your younger kids, racing side by side on their dual racing lines and ziplining at night on a six-line course. They provide all the safety gear you'll need, and their equipment is inspected routinely and checked out daily by a team of professionally trained experts.
If ziplining isn't your speed, you might try some horseback riding. You can enjoy an hour-long ride on their shady, 3.5-mile trail, which features beautiful trees, streams and mountain views. The rides are guided, and the guides do a good job of matching each rider with the most compatible horse. Kids ages 6 and older can ride on their own, while kids ages 3 through 5 ride with Mom or Dad.
If you're interested in the Adventure Park's full spectrum of offerings, you can sign up for a zipline and horseback combo package that lets you experience both adventures for one discounted price.
Dubby's Adventure Park at Five Oaks also has a treetop ropes course, and with a Park Hopper pass, you can undertake all the attractions at this Sevierville location as well as Dubby's other local attractions, including LazerPort Fun Center, Xtreme Racing, SpeedZone Fun Park and Legacy Mountain Ziplines.
While most of these attractions are located in Sevierville and Pigeon Forge, you can easily tie them in to your Gatlinburg travels. You could park in downtown Gatlinburg and knock out your nearby destinations first. Then, instead of driving all the way to Sevierville, you could take advantage of our Gatlinburg parking garage prices and take a trolley to the Adventure Park and other attractions. You'll enjoy the convenience and simplicity of leaving your vehicle in one location for the entire day.
About Leif Palmer
Leif Palmer loves residing in Gatlinburg. He is an avid outdoorsman: rowing for exercise on the lake, trail hiking, and free climbing rocks in the mountains. He indulges his arty side by periodically beating up pieces of marble by sculpting. He is always frustrated by his inability to sink long putts, and hates his curly hair (but his wife loves it). Leif has been known to muster enough courage to change a diaper, and hopes his son will become a chip off the old block.
