Zip line like a pro in Sevierville

It looks like we've been experiencing some true East Tennessee weather lately. Freezing temperatures and snow one week, and then highs in the 70s just a week later. And in the middle of winter, no less! We're hearing that these pleasant days aren't here to stay, unfortunately; another cold snap is on its way. But for this week at least, let's make the most of it and find some ways to have some fun – and adventure – in the great outdoors, especially if you might be visiting the Great Smoky Mountains this week.

You can breathe some fresh mountain air, relish these unseasonably mild days and experience an adrenaline rush or three all in one location if you visit Adventure Park at Five Oaks, located in Sevierville, TN. With fun activities for the whole family, Adventure Park sits on 70 scenic acres packed with beautiful trees, streams and awesome mountain scenery. Collectively, the site is home to Adventure Park Ziplines, Tree Tops Ropes Course and Five Oaks Riding Stables. Whether you decide to try just one or all three, you and your gang are in for an unforgettable adventure in the Smokies.

Adventure Park Ziplines is rated as one of the best zipline attractions in the area. The course features seven ziplines altogether, totaling 2,500 feet – nearly a half-mile – in length. Along the way, you'll soar as high as 100 feet up and reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. They even offer ziplining at night. Their winter hours do vary, based on the weather, so even this week, we recommend calling them to confirm their operational schedule.

The Tree Tops Ropes Course consists of two different zones that allow guests to take on the course at their own pace, whether you're crossing suspension bridges or climbing cargo nets. Participants are always connected to the structure with secure cables and harnesses and are led by experienced guides. Take your pick of the Adult Ropes Course or the Junior Ropes Course for ages 8 to 11.

And all you horse lovers will want to hit the trail at Five Oaks Riding Stables, where riders ages 3 and older (kids 6 and older may ride without an adult) can saddle up and explore our scenic terrain. These guided rides traverse both hills and pastures, with gorgeous mountain and wooded scenery along the way.

Even if you're parking in downtown Gatlinburg for the day, you can easily work Adventure Park into your itinerary. Just leave your vehicle where it is and make a couple of trolley connections to get to Sevierville, all without having to get back behind the wheel.

Ride horses in the middle of Sevierville.
